The Clay Mesh Material option provides a simplified, uniform appearance for all meshes in a scene. This feature is particularly useful for focusing on geometry by highlighting the shape and structure of meshes without distractions from textures or complex materials. It is also ideal for concept visualization, presenting early-stage designs with a neutral aesthetic. Clay is a non-metal PBR material with a roughness value of 1.
Global Clay Render Settings
When enabled, the Clay Render settings apply globally to all meshes in the scene and overwrite materials assigned to meshes. To access clay render settings:
- Open the Settings Window.
- Navigate to Graphics > Clay Render > Mesh.
Here, you can adjust the following options:
Enable
This setting toggles clay rendering on or off for all meshes in the scene.
Base color
This defines the uniform color of the clay material.
Smooth shading
This enables or disables smooth shading, affecting the visual softness of surfaces. When disabled, meshes have a faceted appearance.
Normal map
This setting determines whether normal maps of the materials assigned to meshes are included in the clay rendering.
Customizable PBR Mesh Settings
When clay rendering is enabled, it overrides most of the material settings assigned to individual meshes. However, some settings remain customizable. Transparency, for instance, can still be adjusted to control the visibility of specific meshes. Similarly, if the Clay Normal map is enabled, the PBR Normal map and Normal scale settings can be fine-tuned to enhance surface details.
